DUMUNA Celebrates 78th UN Day

In a harmonious celebration of unity and optimism, the Dhaka University Model United Nations Association (DUMUNA) marked the 78th United Nations Day in the enchanting ambiance of the RC Majumder Auditorium. Voices resonated and minds were ignited with intellectual fervor during this remarkable event.

Centered around the theme “In the Face of Climate Change: Championing Equality, Freedom, and Human Rights,” the occasion embraced the fundamental values of the United Nations: peace, security, and human rights. Passionate students and esteemed experts, including luminaries such as Dr. Delwar Hossain, Professor, Department of International Relations, University of Dhaka, as the moderator, alongside Dr. (Mrs.) Tasneem Arefa Siddiqui, Professor and Chairperson of the Department of Political Science, University of Dhaka, Dr. Nahid Rezwana, Professor, Department of Geography & Environment, University of Dhaka, and Alumni Guest, Rafeed Rahman Turjya, Lecturer, Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, came together, weaving their insights into poetic narratives, painting a vivid portrait of a world striving for equality and freedom in the face of climate change.

Amid animated discussions, a friendly competition sprouted, akin to a garden of knowledge in full bloom. The quiz session, where eager minds competed for victory, transformed into a profound journey of enlightenment. The deserving winners were rewarded with small trees, symbolic seeds of change planted in the hearts of the participants.

The event crescendoed with a symbolic cake cutting—a sweet gesture signifying our shared commitment to a sustainable future. The theme ‘In the Face of Climate Change: Championing Equality, Freedom, and Human Rights,’ emphasized the urgent need to address climate-related challenges while upholding fundamental values of equality, freedom, and human rights. This theme highlighted the inseparable link between environmental sustainability and social justice, encouraging participants to engage in meaningful discussions and actions for a more equitable and sustainable future. The event resulted in the publishing of a policy paper, relying on insights from our esteemed panelists and the audience, as a symbol of DUMUNA’S promise to academic excellence.
