Model United Nations is a form of co-curricular activity in which it enables multiple numbers of skills along with practice of knowledge, especially in the field of international affairs. As a whole, MUN can improve the skills of public speaking, content writing, negotiation, etiquette, and behavior, and it can improve the personality of the participants as a person. MUN focuses on a very important skill that other types of co-curricular activities rarely focus on, and that is the soft skills. The skills of critical thinking, problem solving, and communication in the public sphere; negotiating, establishing one’s opinions, and convincing people towards particular solution. These soft skills are crucial needs of the twenty-first century. Through MUN, these could be developed to a great extent. There are quite a few myths about MUN. People who are not familiar with this newly contemporary form of co-curricular activity think that it may be just about wearing good dresses, doing socials, or may think that this can directly ensure placement in a UN body or things like that. But actually, MUN replicates what happens in the UN to ensure academic stimulation with the core purpose of improving knowledge and skills, which are necessary for a person to develop himself as a skilled man and to make himself ready for his future work sphere.
The initiative of this book has been taken so that people can be introduced to the concept of MUN. Besides, all the first-timers or all the new students who try to understand MUN or are attending a MUN conference face difficulty in finding the rules and regulations and resources for research or resources to learn about this. To make their lives easier and to help them overcome their fear regarding this form of co-curricular activity, we, with a bunch of talented and recognized munners in the MUN circuit of Bangladesh and a few excellent writers from Dhaka University Model United Nations Association, have taken this initiative to launch this MUN handbook. This book is the first of its kind in Bangladesh. There will definitely be a lot of things that might require improvement. So, we are open to any kind of constructive criticism. And, in future editions, we will try to improve those contents or improve those topics that we couldn’t improve this time. Moreover, we would highly appreciate it, if veteran munners of the circuit and well-wishers send their reviews of the book.
